Mediaworks worked closely with St Oswald’s to create the app for the Great North Snowdogs sculpture trail, which hit the North-East of England in September 2016. Upon its launch, the app charted higher than Minecraft in the App Store and was downloaded over 11,000 times. Over the course of the trail, the app received in excess of 2.5 million interactions, helping to raise vital funds for St Oswald’s Hospice. The app’s performance helped Mediaworks scoop the Digital & Social Media Award at the North East Business Awards 2017 grand final.
Following in the pawprints of the Great North Snowdogs trail app, Mediaworks has been working on a number of exciting app development projects for other trails organised by Wild in Art. The trails include Destination Basingstoke’s Sitting With Jane, a BookBench trail to commemorate the life of Jane Austen raising funds for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, Hamilton BID’s The BIG Stampede, a safari trail in support of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, and Birmingham’s The Big Sleuth, a sun bear trail to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
Building on the success of the North East’s Snowdogs trail, Mediaworks and Wild in Art have incorporated additional functionality into the apps to further improve the user experience. New features include a community picture gallery, where users can upload their snaps of the trail direct to the app and share them socially, and a pedometer to help users keep track of the steps they take during the trail as well as time spent.
Sitting With Jane, The BIG Stampede and The Big Sleuth art trails are now live and open for residents and visitors to enjoy this summer. The Big Sleuth public art trail officially began on Monday 10th July and shot straight up to number three in the App Store chart. Each of the trails’ apps is available for download from the App Store and Google Play.
